QUESTIONS & Answers

  • What is the GCA Titling Process?
Step 1: Earn Your Title Review the requirements and prerequisites for each title you plan to earn. This will help you plan and prepare for the challenges at each level. Step 2: Order Your Title Once you've decided on which title(s) you would like to pursue, place your order. During this step, you can choose from many options for recognition, allowing you to select what matters most to you. Step 3: Submit Your Video Form After completing your order, fill out the corresponding form with the necessary details, and upload your video file or link showcasing your dog performing the required tricks for the chosen title. All Done! It's truly that simple.
  • Do I need to register my dog to start submitting for titles?
No - GCA does not require registration or membership to start earning titles. We also do not require your dog to be registered with any organization, or a purebred. All dog and handler teams are welcomed and encouraged to participate in our programs!
  • Where do I input my dog's information and video links for review?
Our title submission forms can be found on the "Submit Your Video" page, but we've added convenient buttons here for easy access. After completing your order, please fill out the forms with the required details about your dog and handler, and upload your video file or link showcasing your tricks.
  • How long will it take to review my video and receive results?
Once we have received all of your information and video link(s), you can typically expect your video to be reviewed and results provided within 3 to 7 days. In some cases, it may take up to two weeks.
  • My dog is trained to a higher level - can we just start at a higher level?
No - each level must be completed in order to be eligible for the next level. Please see the detailed requirements for each level here.
  • I’d like to purchase a title during a sale, but my video isn’t ready yet. How much time do I have to submit it?
No worries! You have up to 12 months from the date of purchase to submit your trick video for review.
  • Can I earn GCA titles with a pet that isn’t a dog?
Absolutely! Our goal is to support pet owners in having rewarding experiences with their pets, no matter the species. When submitting your title video form, just add the species and breed in the "breed" box. We are excited to see animals of all kinds participating!
  • What if my animal or I have specific needs or limitations?
No problem at all! We offer flexibility to ensure that everyone can participate. Whether it’s modifying tricks for a different species or accommodating a pet or handler’s disability, we aim to make the experience enjoyable and accessible. (For example, we might modify a "down stay" to a "stop stay" for a horse, a "bar jump" to a bar on the floor for a pet with dysplasia, modify leash requirements for a handler with limited dexterity, etc.) Every situation is different, so we can’t offer a one-size-fits-all list of modifications. But rest assured, we will work with you and your pet to determine what works best for your specific needs. Accommodation Request Simply note any accommodation(s) in the notes section of your video submission form. There is no need for prior approval. If we need anything from you, we will let you know what your options are. It is not necessary to submit an accommodation request in advance, but if you wish to reach out to us first, just send us a request for accommodation through our Contact form.
  • Can I purchase printed certificates and ribbons at a later date?
Absolutely! Once you’ve purchased a title and it has been approved, you can buy printed certificates and ribbons at any time here.
  • Can I purchase a title for a friend or transfer a prepaid title?
Yes, you can! Simply include the details in your order notes. If you'd like to transfer a prepaid title credit after the date of purchase, just reach out to us using our contact form through our website, and we'll help facilitate the change.
  • What if there is a typo on my title certificate?
If there is a typo on your certificate due to our error, we will issue a corrected one at no cost. If the typo stems from an error in your submission, we will provide you with a revised PDF copy. If you would like a printed certificate, a re-order fee will apply and you an order one here.
  • How do I know which title abbreviation to use?
All of our trick title abbreviations are listed on our "Earn Your Title" page and can be viewed here.
  • Which titles are prefix and suffix on my dog's registered name?
The only GCA titles that are currently a prefix are the Trick Champion (TCH) and Trick Grand Champion (TGrCH) titles. All other GCA titles are suffix and would be added to the end of your dog's registered name.
  • When my dog earns multiple GCA titles, how should they be written with their registered name?
When in doubt, check your most recent GCA title certificate - it will be written correctly there. Generally, titles with prerequisites will supersede the previous title once earned, as it can be safely assumed that the dog has already achieved the lower-level title. Example 1 - Dog earns TD1, TD2, and TD1-M. This would be written as "Dog's Registered Name TD2 TD1-M" Example 2 - Dog earns TD1, TD2, TD3, TD4, TD1-M, and TD2-M. This would be written as "Dog's Registered Name TD4 TD2-M" Example 3 - Dog earns TD1, TD2, TD3, TD4, TCH, TD1-M, TD2-M, and TD1-GM. This would be written as "TCH Dog's Registered Name TD2-M TD1-GM" All of this being said - don't worry too much about listing them the way we do it. Some people prefer to list out every title the dog has earned, some prefer to condense it because it gets a little overwhelming after a while. Do what feels right for you!
  • Does GCA score the title submissions?
No, our title submissions are evaluated on a "pass" or "not yet" basis.
  • Will I receive feedback on my video?
Sometimes! If an exercise or particular element is not met, the evaluator will provide constructive feedback that you can use to improve your future video submissions.
  • I received a "not yet" on my video submission. Can I re-submit?
Yes, you can re-submit a video of the specific exercise(s) needed to complete your title, free of charge, within 6 months of your original submission.
  • Who are your evaluators?
Our evaluators are experienced individuals who have achieved high-level titles in obedience and trick dog programs. They hold training certifications and are also well-versed in training behaviors through small, incremental adjustments to criteria.
  • How are evaluators selected for title submissions?
Evaluators are assigned to videos based on their workload and availability, but the selection process is randomized to ensure fairness.
  • Can I be a GCA Evaluator?
We will be making the application process for becoming a GCA Evaluator publicly available in the future. Be sure to check for updates on how to apply!
